THE LAUNCH OF CARNIVAL IN ST. JOHN’S 19-05-05

On Sunday May 15th the St. John’s Social and Cultural Organization hosted a very successful launch of its 2005 Carnival Season.

Highlights of the Launch included appearances by Fancy Mas bands, Sea Spectrum, African Dancers and the ever-popular Sailors. The Traditional Mas Bands were also well represented with appearances by four Vecour bands namely The Legends, Men from the Boneyard, Sacred Angels and Condemners from Hell. The Waterloo Shortknee also brought their special touch of traditional mas to the event.

The Launch took place at the Pool Wall and according to the St. John’s Social and Cultural Organization the crowd was the largest ever.

Additional entertainment was provided by Calypsonians, Tyron Edwards, Snakie J, Powder and former Soca Monarch Zingo.

The AT&T Florida Allstars provided sweet and entertaining steelpan music for the thousands in attendance.

If the Launch of Carnival in St. John’s is a sign of things to come then rest assured Grenadians are looking forward to the opportunity to express themselves after a few very trying months, in the wake of Hurricane Ivan.

The invitation is once again extended to the rest of the Region and the entire world to join all of Grenada in this wondrous expression of our culture and heritage.

Carnival is Alive in 2005!
