AUGUST IS THE TIME! …even for the Judges

On Saturday June 24th the Grenada Carnival Committee hosted another major Judges workshop.

The adjudication process for both Calypso and Soca always seem to come under scrutiny especially after the various stages of competition. The Grenada Carnival Committee will do all in its power to ensure that the processes are transparent, the general public and the Artistes are properly informed about the criteria and the judges are sufficiently qualified.

It is against this background that the Grenada Carnival Committee contacted the Trinidad and Tobago United Calysonians Organization to provide a facilitator. The Vice-President of TUCO, Mr. Eric Taylor (Pink Panther) was graciously hosted by the Grenada Carnival Committee.

Mr. Taylor proved to be a very informative and as expected, entertaining facilitator. His insight into the criteria solicited some very interesting conversation among the local judges and Artistes at the workshop. Adjectives such as excellent and wonderful were used to describe the presentation.

Although Mr. Taylor dealt with judging and the expectations of Artistes and the general public, there was an underlying theme of the development of the artform. The Grenada Carnival Committee and TUCO will embark on a new relationship with continued interchanges to ensure the artforms can properly represent us as a people.

It is the expectation of the Grenada Carnival Committee that with the increased awareness about the adjudication process, there will be a continued increase in the quality of music produced and the overall development of our Carnival and Culture.
