PRESS CONFERENCE ON CARNIVAL 2005  24-05-05

On Tuesday May 24th the Ministry of Culture, Grenada Cultural Foundation and the Grenada Carnival Committee hosted a press conference in the Conference Room of the Ministry of Tourism and Culture.

 

The press conference was held to bring the general public up to date on plans for Carnival 2005. In the press conference it was revealed that the Launch of Carnival will take place on Friday June 03rd, on the Port Highway. The Chairperson of the Grenada Carnival Committee informed the large media audience that the Launch will include performances by top local calypsonians and Soca Artistes, three of Grenada’s top steelbands, and a plethora of Traditional Mas Bands. The Launch will begin at 6pm and an invitation was extended to all of Grenada to participate in this exciting beginning to our Carnival season.

 

During the press conference it was revealed by the Minister of Tourism and Culture, the Hon. Senator Brenda Hood that about 60% of the hotel rooms on the Island will be operational during the busy Carnival season. The Minster also pointed out the importance and benefits of the Carnival season across the entire economic spectrum. Those benefits, the Minister pointed out was a major consideration in having Carnival in 2005, in spite of the setbacks related to venues and financing.

 

As has happened time and again the spirit of Grenadians, in the face of adversity, has always prevailed. Carnival 2005 will once again see that spirit manifest itself throughout Grenada as the greatest expression of our culture and heritage unfolds.

 

Carnival Is Alive In 2005!
