Spicemas News: July 13th, 2009
Another very exciting weekend of the build up to Spicemas has been concluded and this time the interest was even more intense with a couple of competitions concluding.
On Saturday the 2009 Bomb Tune competition that formed part of the Panorama Launch produced a show of extremely high standard and an astounding turnout of patrons. The Tivoli Hard Court hosted the 8 steelbands who will compete in the 2009 Panorama finals on Saturday August 08th at the National Stadium.
The Bomb tune competition saw bands playing old favorites such as “August Is the Time”, “No Place Sweeter than Home”, and “African Lady”. The enthusiasm from the audience and the youthful exuberance displayed by the players speaks to the possibilities for the further growth and development of steelband here in Grenada.
The results of the 2009 Bomb Tune Competition are as follows;
Suzuki/Foodfair Pan Wizards were officially disqualified from the competition for having in excess of the 25 players agreed to by the Grenada Carnival Committee and the Grenada Steelband Association prior to the competition.
The next stage of Pan Competition will be the Pan Yard Judging which will take place at the various pan yards in the last week of July.
After preliminary judging and 4 days of Quaterfinals the Lime Soca Monarch competition now moves to the semifinal stage. The semifinals will take place on Friday July 24th at the Victoria Park in Grenville, St. Andrew.

The list includes 6 former Soca Monarchs and 6 former road march winners.
Additionally, over the weekend Artistes, Tallpree, Spontaneous and Luni Spark and Electrify all had launches, releasing new material for the 2009 Carnival season.
The 2009 Carnival season is now at full throttle and the Grenada Cultural Foundation and the Grenada Carnival Committee reminds all to be safe and to have an enjoyable 2009 Carnival season.
The Grenada Cultural Foundation and The Grenada Carnival Committee would like to take this opportunity to congratulate Kirani James on his outstanding performances over the weekend at the World Junior Games. This outstanding citizen of Grenada continues to fly the flag of our wonderful island with immense pride propelled by his God-given talents and a determination to be his best at all times.
