Calypso Preliminary

The preliminary stage of Calypso judging begins this evening at the Sunset View Restaurant and Bar in Grand Mal. The show starts at 8:30 pm and the admission is only $15. Among the Artistes facing the judges tonight will be Zingo, Tallpree, Pupa Lendi, Kage, Kitty Boy, Little John, Super Terry, Maxi Million and more. Click here for more information

The GCC / LIME Soca Monarch semifinals

The GCC / LIME Soca Monarch semifinals takes place at the Victoria Park in Grenville on Friday July 24th, 2009, starting time 8pm and admission only $20. Among this year’s semifinalists are 4 first-timers – Kage, Otis, Bloodfire and Boyzie. Two females also make up the cast – Superstar who has won the Calypso and Soca Monarch titles in sister isle Carriacou and Miney the current road march monarch.

Cultural Celebration for Kirani James

This Saturday the Speed Zone Track and Field Club with assistance from the Grenada Carnival Committee and the Grenada Cultural Foundation will host a cultural celebration for Kirani James at the Cuthbert Peters Park in Gouyave. The evening’s activities will begin at 6pm after a motorcade through the parishes of St. John and St. Mark. The cultural evening will feature live steelband music, a host of calypso and soca artistes, mas portrayals along with local food and drink specials. The admission to the Park is $5 which will be collected directly by the Speed Zone Track and Field Club along with the proceeds from the bars to assist the Club with its program for the development of athletics in the Parish of St. John. A special, golden celebration for an outstanding Grenadian citizen.

The Lion’s Ole Mas

The Lion’s Ole Mas competition takes place this Sunday at the Grenada Trade Center beginning at 4pm. Tickets are $20 for adults and $10 for kids under 12.  The evening will feature live performances by Calypsonians and Soca Artistes, Coyaba New Dimensions and a male Queen Show. The show is sponsored in part by Grenada Cooperative Bank, Caribbean Agro Industries and Grenadian General Insurance. Click here for more information
