Parish Of St. Patrick

Interest: Hiking, music, performing arts, socialising

Age: 18 years old

Biography: My name is Lauren Gairy and I am a talented, intellectual, humble young woman who hails from the village of La-Mode in St. Patrick. My mother’s name is Lyneth Gairy and my father’s name is Francis Gairy. I am the youngest of five children (Jessie John, Arnold Gairy, Jenna John and Jeff Gairy) and I was conceived 14 years after their forth child. I am originally from La Fortune in St. Patrick but moved to La-Mode at the age of three.  My hobbies are participating in outdoor activities, the art of dance (Folk and Latin), reading, listening to music, eating and cooking and communicating with others. I am a Christian and a Roman Catholic. My philosophies in life are ‘with God by my side no one can stop me’ and ‘everything happens in life for a reason your ability to conquer depends on your faith in God.’

I am currently residing in the village of La-Mode. The word ‘la mode’ is a French word which means fashion. It is a very small, if not the smallest village, situated on a low hill in the Parish of St. Patrick. It is bordered by the villages of Marli, Snell Hall and La Fortune. Its simplicity comprises of friendly villagers, luscious green scenery wrapped in the light caresses of the breeze that is provoked by an enticing view of a beautiful blue Caribbean Sea.

For my 18 years I have been passionately devoted not only to my family, but also to the church, community and my dance group. I am currently belonging to the St. Patrick Catholic Church Youth Ministry, the Lectors Ministry and the Synod. I indulge in community service at the Hillarian Home for the elderly located at Mt. Craven in St. Patrick and volunteering my time to help out with camps being held for the children within the Parish. And I am a member of the Latin dance group and company_ ‘Stepoutanup Salseros.’

I started my education at the St. Patrick Anglican Primary School. Hence I was able to attend the Mac Donald College Secondary School in which I successfully acquired 7 CXC subjects ( Agricultural Science, Biology, Economics, English A, Geography, Office Administration and Principles of Business) and I am currently attending the T.A Marryshow Community College majoring in Business Management, Economics and Communications. I was a member of the Junior Achievers, the Peer Helpers, participated in NAWASA’s 1st Primary School Quiz and the Drum Coup. And I am a member of the Grenada Red Cross Society. Having entered a Pageant for the 1st   time and winning (Miss St. Patrick Carnival Queen 2010). And that I was able to survive, after having an attack of the rheumatic fever as a baby are truly great accomplishments.

Although I am currently exploring the fields of Business and Economics my desire is to become a Psychologist. For I truly believe that the youth are really the future of Grenada, and that our young people  are emotionally, mentally, physically and spiritually disturbed and I would definitely want to allow them the opportunity to revive themselves and be aware that there are individuals out there who do care. And also to be recognized some day as a ‘sister of the soil’ who has done her Parish and country proud as well as an inspiration to black and/or Caribbean woman for whatever contributions I may have contributed to the development of young people.

If it was not for God I would definitely not have been here, therefore I am thankful to Him for allowing me the honour to be here on earth. My mother (Lyneth Gairy) and brother (Jeff Gairy) who has played and essential role in my life. They have guided me through both good times and bad times and I am sincerely grateful to them. Also my best friends Chervaughn Archibald-William, Ariel Phillip, Alison Noel, Shenell Mc Queen, Akiedon Franklyn and Jory Andrew.
